A journey through traditional Japan
Japanese traditional culture is an important part of Japan Expo Sud and has a whole dedicated area, to show some of its most beautiful aspects to the attendees!
On stage, traditional instruments offer sweet melodies and catchy rhythms. Enjoy:
- The poetic mix of shinobue (flute) and taiko (drums) with Lyu Taiko on Friday and Saturday,
- Pao Pi’s shinobue performance, on Friday and Sunday,
- The amazing sound of Pousses de Bamboo Orchestra’s bamboo instruments.
And if you like dancing, try yosakoi! The troupe Yosakoi Paris Hinodemai is taking you into this joyful dance on Saturday and Sunday.
With the Consulate General of Japan in Marseille, you can, admire the work of Japanese artists who have settled in the South of France: Chiaki MASUI-DUPRÉ’s ceramics and Nozawa’s painting. Kokeshi, little traditional wooden dolls, are also exhibited and kokeshi painting demonstrations are organized.
If you’d like to go further and try Japanese arts yourself, let’s take part in the many activities organized at the festival. The Consulate General of Japan in Marseille teaches origami and calligraphy.
And if you go near the Japanese garden (it’d be a shame if you didn’t!), stay a while and attend the ikebana (flower arrangement) demos and the origami, calligraphy, and fabric dying workshops.
