Lyu Taïko
The group Lyu Taïko is sharing their passion of Japanese drums with you through two performances on the Sakura stage!
Presentation
Japanese traditional drums are powerful and rousing. They date back to the 6th century when they were used during religious rites. Later they accompany nô and kabuki theatre. Taiko is also used for fishing and agriculture celebrations. Around 1960, it was reinvented to mix tradition and modernity.
Lyu Taïko (meaning the "dragon’s drums") is a group from the South of France who promote this Japanese traditional art through concerts.
Luc VERDIER was a disciple of Maître SENDO and when he came back from Japan in 2015 after studying Japanese drums in the group SEN, he created Lyu Taïko and brought together a team of Japanese musicians and French students to promote Japanese drums in France.
The group’s repertoire mixes traditional and modern music with taiko, shinobue (a little bamboo flute), ocarina, and chanchiki (little metal drum).
