Presentation

Yosakoi Paris Hinodemai is a yosakoi dance group. At first, they were a group of friends who got together to share their passion for and joy of dancing. The group is made a 5 to 10 Japanese and French members of various ages.

Since the team was created in 2014, Yosakoi Paris Hinodemai has had opportunities to perform on Japan Expo Sud’s stage, and to exchange and train with Koidoukai (Bordeaux’s yosakoi team). Besides, they also took part in the events Japan Expo Paris, C’est bon le Japon, Samurai Japon, la Fête de l’automne à Marseille (Marseille’s automn matsuri), and to the Yosakoi European Network = YEN with trainings in Sweden.

The group wishes to spread yosakoi dance and to promote Japanese traditional culture and this style of dance.

What is yosakoi?

Yosakoi is a dance from the city of Kôchi, in Shikoku island. It was created in 1954 to boost the country’s economy and the cities damaged by the war. Mixing a traditional style with modern moves and energetic rhythms, yosakoi is now danced all over Japan.

Yosakoi uses naruko, sorts of wooden instruments that the dancers hold in their hands. Naruko used to be used to frighten birds away from the rice fields. Yosakoi can also be danced holding a fan or a lantern.

The dancers can wear any type of clothes, traditional or casual.
