Présentation

Kendô is a kind of sword fencing using both hands in which using the right equipment (bamboo weapons, protection armors) allows real assaults. The practitioners are called kendôka (seldom used in Japan) or kenshi (剣士).

Kendô is fit for men and women alike, training (keiko 稽 古) often being mixed. There are female competitions, but mixed teams are quite usual in championships.

Thanks to protections and the absence of any violent physical contacts, or falls, kendô is great for everyone, kids and grownups, from 5 or 6 y.o. and over 80.

Kendô is practiced in a dôjô (道場): a room with hardwood floors. There are no categories of weight and practitioners do not display any sign of their rank.

All Japan Expo Sud attendees are welcome to join Fudokan’s kendôka on the tatami in the Budô Area! Present in Marseille and in the local area for more than 30 years and related to Osaka University, the association and its members will be holding demonstrations everyday of the festival. This expert team will also be initiating you to kendô and sharing their knowledge.

Kids and grownups alike, you are all welcome on the tatami to meet with Fudokan!
