Uko Oshia

Uko Oshia was born in Osaka in 1982 and has pursued a career as an actor, mainly in theater. He made a name for himself by participating in the first Japanese stage production to address the issue of abductions by North Koreans, and developed an artistic practice covering both social works and the classical repertoire.

He subsequently founded the production company GUM Co., Ltd and embarked on a full-fledged career as a film producer. He oversees the entire process, from project development and fundraising to production and promotion, while questioning the place and necessity of cinema in contemporary society.

His productions include Niwatori Star, Niwatori phenix, Eki made no michi wo oshiete - (Tell Me the Way to the Station), based on the original work by Shizuka Ijuin, and Child of the Kamiari Month, which ranked 8th in Netflix's global Top 10 in its first week of release.

In 2025, he was appointed chairman of the executive committee of Japan Expo Paris in Osaka for the Osaka World Expo. That same year, he presented his first documentary film as a director, entitled Manten no Hoshi.

He is coming to Japan Expo Marseille to present Beast of the Kamisari Month.
