Chichibu Yomatsuri, a winter's festival

To celebrate the beginning of winter, the Japanese organize Chichibu Yomatsuri on Dec. 2-3: it's one of the most beautiful night festival in Japan, every year on December 3rd!

Near Tokyo, the town of Chichibu hosts one of the most outstanding yomatsuri of Japan, with impressive floats and a bright illuminated parade. A yomatsuri is a festival happening at night.

This festival has been going on for 300 years to honor the 6 Gods protecting the town. Each one of them is represented by a float lit up with colorful lanterns, and drawn by young people dressed in traditional costumes. Spectacular fireworks light up the sky to the rhythm of taiko and flutes.
