Known for Grave of the Fireflies, which was inspired from his own experience, Isao TAKAHATA had created Studio Ghibli with Hayao MIYAZAKI in 1985. He also directed such classics as Pom Poko or My Neighbors the Yamadas, and recently The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, his last film as a director, many times rewarded and Oscar-nominated. In 2016, he had also worked on Michaël Dudok de Wit’s The Red Turtle.
We were very sad to hear that he passed away yesterday at 82. Our thoughts go to his family and friends.
