Quite different from the kawaii mascots who usually win the title, the mascot for 2015 represents the shôgun Ieyasu TOKUGAWA, one of the most famous characters in Japanese History.

He’s coming after Gunma-chan, a very kawaii horse representing Gunma.

Ieyasu-kun is Hamamatsu’s mascot and bears many symbols from the city, starting withthe eel that stands for his hair and that is a local specialty. Hamamatsu is also often called City of music because of the many piano makers such as Yamaha or Roland, hence the piano keyboard on his shirt. He also wears mandarin-shaped badges, another local product. Finally, his blue and green clothes recall the river, the lake and the woods that are the major part of Hamamatsu’s landscape.

Mikyan has come up one rank since last year and comes 2nd instead of 3rd: Ehime prefecture’s mascot represents a mandarin, the local specialty. He has switched place withFukachan who was 2nd and is now 3rd on the podium.  Half-stag and half-dog, he comes from the city of Fukaya in Saitama prefecture. His head looks like the onions, the city’s local product.

You’ll find all the Yuru Yuru Grand Prix contest mascots on the official website (in Japanese).
