It is said to have powers that leaves no one indifferent. According to the legend, it saved the life of a landlord by beckoning to him to take shelter in its temple, Gôtoku-ji. To thank the cat, the landlord offered part of his wealth to rebuild the temple, which became one of the most important in the district. To this day, all Japanese people know about the Maneki-Neko, the lucky cat.
The Japanese word, Maneki-Neko, is made of two parts, maneki meaning "beckoning", and neko "cat", which gives "beckoning cat ".
